Tank Man

This year on 4th June, which annually marks the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square uprising, I dicovered the TANK MAN. Discovered might not be the most ideal word, because as reports go, he is yet to be identified.

What I found was the immense, Jaw-dropping courage of a Human being. How many of us would be able to do this?

To stand in front of 17-20 approaching tanks (the images do not do this sufficient justice, you could go to TIME.com for better images) obstructing their advance, and to climb atop the tank to reason with the soldier and ask them to return, takes something more than plain guts.

I cannot help going back to the pictures / videos repeatedly to try and peer at his face to see his expression as he stands there, hands by his side, head held high.

Did he, as he stood there fully comprehend the outcome of his actions – the tank could have simply rolled over him without a pause, or the Chinese govt being what it is, could simply have him shot down. (they still might have because no one knows what happened to him after the incident). Do Actions like these even give you the time to comprehend? You as they say “Just do it.”

I wonder what it takes to act the way he did – Doubtless conviction in the cause you are fighting for? What I'm sure it takes is exemplary courage mixed with a whole lot of insanity.
